At First Dental Studio, we’re big fans of superheroes–in fact, like Batman and Superman, we bet you didn’t know that Dr. Vincent has two identities. Can you guess what they are?
With Father’s Day quickly approaching, we wanted to share our top three tips for raising kids with healthy teeth and smiles. Feel like your smile could benefit from more thoughtful care? All of our tips below are applicable to adults, too.
1. Pick Two Songs
You may have heard that it’s a good idea to play a song when brushing, but why not pick two songs? Choose one that is about two minutes long that will be the “brushing teeth song” that you play when you brush together with your child–a favourite of Dr. Vincent’s is The Wiggles Toothbrush song. The second song can be upbeat and fun to dance to– the mini dance party with dad acts as a fun incentive for your little one to brush their teeth.
2. Keep It Positive When You Visit The Dentist
Even adults can feel nervous about the dentist, which can likely stem from a negative experience in the past that they might not even remember. In order to help your child have a positive association with us, be encouraging and reassuring.
3. Bring Your Child In Early!
Let your child watch a parent, older sibling or even a friend who is not scared get something simple like a dental checkup and clean performed so they know it’s not that bad. Dr Vincent’s seven-year-old son has actually referred a few of his school friends in to see him. His son always comes with them after school and helps tell them about all the cool instruments at the dentist and what they are for – sounds like top notch superhero sidekick.
